How it works

Evidence-based resume analysis

The checker separates document extraction, resume parsing, timeline analysis, job matching, formatting evidence, scoring, and recommendations so every result can be traced to a rule.

01 · Parse

Extract structured evidence

Detect contact data, standard and alternative section headings, skills, projects, education, certifications, and employment date ranges.

02 · Compare

Weight job requirements

Separate required and preferred qualifications, normalize abbreviations, map synonyms, and measure weighted keyword coverage.

03 · Improve

Prioritize useful changes

Review transparent category scores, document risks, skill gaps, recruiter-facing weaknesses, and ordered recommendations.

Benefits and features

Built for accurate, private iteration

Job relevance affects the final score

With a job description, relevance contributes 30% of the final score. A weak job match therefore cannot be hidden behind an otherwise well-formatted resume.

Employment dates stay in context

Experience is calculated only from ranges found in the detected employment section. Overlapping roles are merged and internships are reported separately.

Uncertain formatting checks are labeled

Text alone cannot prove every visual layout issue. Unsupported checks are reported as unavailable or potential risks instead of fabricated confirmed failures.

Your document remains private

PDF, DOCX, and text parsing occurs inside browser memory. Refreshing or resetting clears the analysis from the page.

Resume guidance

Practical ATS resume tips

Use recognizable headings

Prefer Summary, Experience, Skills, Projects, Education, and Certifications over creative labels that parsers may not classify.

Write evidence, not keyword lists

Integrate relevant tools and skills into accomplishment bullets that explain scope, action, and measurable outcome.

Keep the layout predictable

Use a clear reading order, restrained graphics, readable font sizes, and simple tables only when the target ATS is known to support them.

Mistakes and myths

What ATS optimization does not mean

Mistake: copying every job keyword

Unnatural repetition reduces readability and can misrepresent your experience. Include only truthful skills and support them with relevant evidence.

Mistake: using education dates as experience

Graduation years do not establish employment duration. Professional timelines must be parsed from roles and employment ranges.

Myth: one score works for every job

General resume health and role relevance are different measurements. A strong resume can still be poorly aligned with a specific vacancy.

Myth: ATS compatibility guarantees an interview

Recruiter judgment, candidate competition, location, compensation, eligibility, and employer-specific rules still affect hiring outcomes.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How is the ATS score calculated?
Each category has a published weight, evidence-based ratio, reason, and improvement. When a job description is present, job relevance contributes 30 of 100 available points. Without one, the result is explicitly labeled Resume Health and the unavailable relevance category is excluded.
Does this checker upload or store my resume?
No. File extraction, analysis, dashboard rendering, and report generation run locally in your browser. The tool does not submit the resume to an external AI or document-processing API.
How does professional experience calculation work?
The parser examines date ranges within the detected experience section, recognizes month and year variants plus Present or Current, merges overlapping employment, identifies internships from nearby role text, and reports career gaps separately.
What file formats are supported?
PDF, DOCX, and TXT files up to 10 MB are supported. You can also paste text. Image-only scanned PDFs may require OCR before they can be analyzed because they may not contain extractable text.
How are synonyms and abbreviations matched?
Terms are normalized to canonical concepts. For example, ML maps to Machine Learning, JS maps to JavaScript, K8s maps to Kubernetes, and RESTful maps to REST API. Exact, synonym, abbreviation, and partial matches receive different credit.
Can the tool confirm visual formatting problems?
Only when reliable document evidence is available. DOCX structure can reveal tables, drawings, columns, fonts, and margins. PDF extraction provides page and text-position evidence. Checks that cannot be established are labeled Potential ATS Risk or Unavailable.
Why can a good resume receive a low targeted score?
A polished resume may still lack the required skills and priority concepts for a specific role. Targeted ATS scoring intentionally gives substantial weight to job relevance rather than treating formatting as a substitute for qualification alignment.
Will a high score guarantee an interview?
No. The report helps improve parsability, relevance, and communication quality, but it cannot model every employer rule or guarantee a hiring outcome.
