Calculate loan EMI, interest, and repayment cost

This EMI Calculator estimates the fixed monthly installment for a reducing-balance loan. It separates each payment into principal and interest and creates a complete repayment schedule from the first payment month to the expected payoff date.

The calculator can be used for home loans, car loans, personal loans, education loans, business loans, and other fixed-rate monthly repayment arrangements. You can select a currency for display without changing the underlying mathematics.

Add an optional monthly prepayment to estimate how faster principal reduction may shorten the loan and lower interest. The original contractual EMI remains visible separately from the planned EMI-plus-prepayment outflow.

Private calculations in your browser

Loan amount, rate, tenure, fee, and prepayment values are calculated locally. The tool does not intentionally submit these values to a calculation server.

Repayment factors

What changes your EMI and total interest?

Each loan input affects monthly affordability and total repayment cost differently.

Factor When it increases Typical EMI effect Typical interest effect
Loan principal More money is borrowed EMI increases Total interest increases
Interest rate The annual borrowing rate rises EMI increases Total interest increases
Loan tenure More monthly payments are used EMI usually decreases Total interest usually increases
Extra payment More principal is paid each month Contractual EMI stays the same Interest and tenure may decrease
Processing fee The lender charges a higher fee No change in this calculator Total cost increases
Responsible comparison

Best practices when estimating a loan

Use the EMI as one part of a wider affordability and lender comparison process.

1

Compare total repayment cost

A lower EMI created by a longer tenure may result in substantially more interest over the full loan.

2

Include all lender charges

Consider processing fees, insurance, taxes, legal charges, account fees, and prepayment penalties.

3

Keep a payment buffer

Avoid using the entire available monthly budget for EMI; allow room for emergencies and changing expenses.

4

Verify prepayment conditions

Confirm whether the lender permits extra payments and whether charges or minimum amounts apply.

Common questions

EMI calculator FAQ

What is EMI?

EMI means Equated Monthly Instalment. It is the scheduled monthly amount paid toward a reducing-balance loan and normally contains both principal and interest.

How is EMI calculated?

For a reducing-balance loan, EMI is calculated using P × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r) raised to −n), where P is principal, r is the monthly interest rate, and n is the number of monthly payments.

Can this calculator handle a zero-interest loan?

Yes. When the annual interest rate is zero, the calculator divides the principal evenly by the number of monthly payments and reports zero interest.

How does an extra monthly payment affect the loan?

The extra amount is applied directly to principal after the scheduled EMI. This may shorten the repayment period and reduce total interest, subject to the lender's prepayment rules.

Is the processing fee included in the EMI?

No. This calculator shows the processing fee separately and adds it only to estimated total cost. It does not finance the fee into the principal or monthly EMI.

Are my loan details sent to a server?

No. The calculation and amortization schedule are generated locally in your browser. The calculator does not intentionally upload your loan values to a server.

Are EMI calculator results exact lender quotations?

No. Results are estimates based on the values entered and a monthly reducing-balance model. Lender rounding, payment timing, taxes, insurance, fees, rate changes, and prepayment policies can produce different figures.

Important: This calculator provides general mathematical estimates and is not financial advice, a loan offer, or a lender quotation. Confirm the applicable rate, compounding method, fees, taxes, insurance, repayment dates, and prepayment terms with the relevant lender.
